Este teste já foi realizado nos anos 1940 pelo psicólogo americano Kenneth Clark. Quase 60 anos depois, o cineasta americano Kiri Davis recriado o teste. A pedagoga brasileira Roseli Martins realizou um teste semelhante com crianças brasileiras em 2006. 

Quando Kenneth Clark testou 16 crianças afro-americanas em 1950, 63% (10 de 16) escolheu a boneca branca. Quando Davis testou 21 crianças afro-americanas em 2005, 71% (15 de 21) escolheu a boneca branca.Martins testou 26 meninas (14 brancas, 12 afro-brasileiras) com 4 bonecos: um boneco menino, uma boneca negra, uma boneca branca com cabelo curto e uma boneca menina branca com cabelos compridos. Ela descobriu que 17 meninas (65%) escolheram a boneca branca de cabelo comprido, quatro (15%) escolheram o boneco menino e cinco escolheram a boneca negra (19%). Dos cinco que escolheram a boneca negra, somente 2 das 12 meninas afro-brasileiras (17%) escolheram a boneca negra. No meu teste (novembro de 2009), eu peguntei as crianças (todos pretos e pardos) uma série de perguntas. Aqui estão os resultados das perguntas: Qual boneca é mais bonita? 17 (65%) escolheu a boneca branca, 9 escolheu a boneca negra. Qual boneca é a boneca boa? 11 (69%) escolheu a boneca branca, 5 escolheu a boneca negra. Qual boneca você prefere brincar? 6 (55%) escolheu a boneca a boneca branca, 5 escolheu a boneca negra.Se você pudesse escolher apenas uma boneca pra comprar pra a sua irmã, qual você compraria? 10 (67%) escolheu a boneca branca, 5 escolheu a boneca negra. This test was done in the 1940s by American psychologist Kenneth Clark.
